Also, make sure you are talking to the right person! For consumers this is easier, although in the case of a couple you may well find one or the other deals with whatever you are calling them about, and talking to the wrong person will not help.

For B2B telemarketing, this is even more vital, as you will be wasting both your time and the potential customers by presenting to the wrong person. My top tips for getting through:

1) Ask the receptionist for responsibility or role, rather than a job title, as different companies will handle things in different ways
2) Re-confirm if you have a contact name but have not made contact in a while – ‘Does Mr Smith still deal with …?’
3) Confirm with the contact early in the conversation ‘I understand you deal with…?’ which can also help you to understand the decision making processes if others are involved.

Hi Steven – Good summary

I joined them last week as a paid member – had i seen this post before I would have signed under you. It seems a very simple but clever system, the links being the juice to fire the ads – it took a wee while for the penny to drop, dooh – when I decided to read the documentation.

Overall a very simple but clever system – time will tell how it delivers. I’m not sure about using it for Ad Swap emails though, but I think its ok for any emailing to Safe Lists etc.
